Here you can see the hem finally sewn. In period, hems would be faced with linen, I have a little fun with my hems by facing them in crazy quilt prints. The trim stitching is protected by the facing, from shoe heels and such, and the hem is far more secure done in this manner. The top edge of the facing is turned under .5cm and held in place with a running stitch.
