Estela du Frayse
My father owned a small estate in Provence, not far from the warm waters of the Med. There he had orchards and vineyards, a large garden and some livestock. The thing with living so close to the Mediterranean is that there are many trading ships and often they bring deadly diseases. When I was still very young, the plague hit us quite hard and my father sent my mother, younger brother, and myself away to the North to avoid getting sick. My older brother and Father stayed to take care of the estate. Needless to say we were the only ones to survive. My mother lost everything. She was taken in by a family in the North of France who recognized her abilities to run a household. The widower eventually married my mother, so she is now taken care of. My brother and myself found our own way in life. He is now the captain of one of the fine trading ships that visit these shores.
