Sileas ni Dhomhnaill
Sileas is the daughter of a well respected filidh or court poet to one of the major clans in Scotland. Being the offspring of such an influential and important member of the court, a marriage had been arranged for political reasons with a man that Sileas found to be less than desirable. To avoid the upcoming nuptials, she decided to take up with a traveling troupe of bards and depart the area all together. Unfortunately, the bardic singers discovered that their new comrade had a most dismal singing voice and rather limited abilities in the writing of verse, and Sileas was encouraged to seek a new career. She met up with a struggling artist in one of the communities the entourage was visiting and agreed to exchange her significant cooking skills for training in the fine arts. Sileas spent many years with the artist who became her husband, and gained respect and admiration for her painting and portraiture talents. Sileas quickly surpassed her husbands meagre talents with her fine abilities. However, Sileas being no fool, learned early on that a woman cannot make a career as a painter, and used her husband's name as her alter-ego, in order to make her paintings more saleable. After a number of years the partnership came to an abrupt end when Claude accidentally ingested a significant quantity of titanium oxide mistaking it for his usual evening goblet of wine while he was mixing pigment for the following days work. Claude had already consumed several bottles of wine and his taste buds were somewhat compromised when the fatal error in judgement occurred. Sileas has been steadfast in her denial of any complicity in her husband's early demise despite the rumours of discontent in the marriage. In order to continue her career, the news of Claude's demise has been a well kept secret known only to her closest friends. Sileas at times presents herself as the artist Claude in order to interview with prospective clients and to attend functions that require the artist's presence. Most days however, she lives and works as Sileas, wife of the artist Claude. Friends at the Golden Oak Inn of course know Sileas and assist her in keeping her little subterfuge from the general public. Sileas resides at the Inn and maintains a small studio there where she produces her paintings for exhibit and sale throughout the region. Sileas received her Award of Arms at the Investiture of the Barony of Dragon Dormant AS XXXIX.
