Some of Estela's many projects
These are just some of the more recent projects I've been working on. In the sweet shoe, we often work on larger projects together. Thank goodness the gang handle my ideas with a smile and like to join me down different paths. For the latest collaboration, see the main projects page!
The Laurel Challenge
At the moment, I am working on an outfit to send to the Laurel's challenge next May. It is my hope to enter the Doublet challenge. I have to create an entire outfit because the style of doublet is a little earlier than the time period I normally wear. The majority of the outfit will have to be constructed before I can begin the doublet, as the fit will rely on where everything else is worn on my body. Before too long, I'll have a new corset, hoop and petticoats. Then doublet construction can begin!

Vikings! The Vinland Mystery
This year, my boss at the museum presented me with a challenge. Create clothes for the upcoming Vikings exhibit. The exhibit was a joint effort between the Manitoba museum, Parks Canada and the Maritime museum of the Atlantic. Here is an article I wrote about my attempt at men's trousers.

The second PDF is of the original pattern layout from Historiska Varldar's website, my notes and my new cutting layout. The new cutting layout makes better use of the fabric with very little waste.

This is what I've been up to this past year.
The Viking clothes were built for the Maritime Museum's "Vinland Mystery" Exhibit. Check out the Hedeby Trousers pdf above to find out more! There's also some tunics and cotehardies for a couple of friendly faces.
Port Royal National Historic site called last Spring asking if I could finish a suit for them. Maestra Francessca had cut and begun constructing, but had been offered a dream job and ran out of time to finish it. I completed the Venetians, built most of the doublet and then constructed a shirt and collar. William looks good in it, even if he says "not"! He's just a little shorter than the gentleman it was built for. I learned a lot from Maestra Francessca, even if from afar, as we had learned tailoring from two different people. Cool Project!
Here are some of the older stuff...my favourites.
